Friends stars’ tributes to Matthew Perry: Courteney Cox and Matt Le Blanc pay tribute to late Friends co-star Matthew Perry

Courteney Cox and Matt Le Blanc have paid tribute to late Friends co-star Matthew Perry after his shock death at his Los Angeles home last month.

The actress, 59, shared a clip on Instagram of one of their most iconic scenes from the hit sitcom, where their characters Monica and Chandler first got together in London, and said she is “grateful for every moment” they shared together.

“I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day,” Cox wrote.

“When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now here’s one of my favorites.”

Cox went on to say that the storyline of Monica and Chandler marrying wasn’t meant to take place as their characters were only meant to have a fling in London.

“To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story,” she said.

“In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind. 🤍🕊️.”

Cox shared the tribute on Wednesday (Tuesday Los Angeles time), just hours after Friends co-star Matt Le Blanc, 56, shared a social media tribute to Perry.

Le Blanc, who played Perry’s roommate Joey Tribbiani in Friends, shared a series of photos of the duo on Instagram – both on-screen and off – alongside a letter to the late star.

“It is with a heavy heart I say goodbye,” LeBlanc began.

“The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life.

“It was an honour to share the stage with you and to call you my friend. I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never.”

Hinting at Perry’s trouble in the past with addiction, LeBlanc encouraged him to “fly brother you’re finally free”, before adding a joke to finish off the fond farewell.

“And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me,” he said.

Perry last appeared in Friends: The Reunion in 2021, which he also executive produced.

In his memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, which was released in October 2022, he provided an unflinching account of the time before he was on the hit ’90s sitcom and beyond, delving deep into his battle with addiction and the cost of fame.

In 2019, at the age of 49, Perry nearly died after his colon burst from opioid overuse. He was in a coma for two weeks and spent five months in the hospital.
