Jaquel Spivey who plays Damian in the new rendition, told Entertainment Weekly that he initially thought he was being pranked when Tina Fey tried to talk to him about the role.
“I got introduced to the project through Tina, talking to Tina,” he said. “Because I thought it was a prank, they were like, ‘Tina Fey wants to talk to you.’ And I was like, ‘Mmm-hmm’.
“And then sure enough [she] pops up on the Zoom. And I don’t see a world where I could have, or anybody could have, said yes if Tina was not involved, because it’s Tina Fey, come on!”
2024’s Janice, Auli’i Cravalho also shared how she felt to land the role with ET.
“I feel really grateful. I mean, it’s not very often that you have all these movies that do that. Mean Girls really opened the doors for a lot of things going on in schools. I think it’s also a really fun movie, so it’s really a blessing.”
