The world is still reeling from Princess Catherine‘s “planned abdominal surgery” last week. And no, “reeling” is not too strong of a word to use in this context.
We know that now because according to a new report out on Wednesday, almost NOBODY in Kate Middleton‘s life knew she was going in for surgery. Beyond her husband Prince William and her closest family members, pretty much everybody in her life — even her very close pals — was left totally in the dark! Damn!!

On Wednesday morning, People published a report citing insiders who claimed that “most of those [people] around” Princess Catherine had no idea she was going to be hospitalized for surgery last week. As you’ll recall, the 42-year-old Princess of Wales was hospitalized at The London Clinic last Tuesday, and had what Kensington Palace later referred to as “planned abdominal surgery.” By all accounts, the surgery went well, and she began her recovery in earnest.
But just a few weeks before, during Christmas and New Year’s public appearances and outings, nobody had any clue that anything was the matter. Per People, the surgery situation came as a surprise even to close confidantes, friends, and those who work very closely with the royal family. For Christmas and then after, the family enjoyed time together with relatives and pals that included outings at their country home Anmer Hall, as well as jaunts around the Norfolk countryside.
Even after the New Year, they continued their normal daily life at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, and took on a full celebration of Kate’s 42nd birthday on January 8. Prince George, Prince Louis, and Princess Charlotte returned to school after that, and Prince William resumed his royal duties. But that’s where Kate’s path diverged to prep for the surgery. Hardly anyone knew the procedure was coming outside of William and other very close family members. And even those who saw Princess Catherine regularly right up until then were apparently caught off guard by the major medical move.

Now, with the surgery having been successfully completed, the recovery is the most important part. According to one source close to the royal household who spoke to People about the matter, Kate’s full focus is on recuperating carefully but determinedly:
“It is sensible to take the time. That is a great example to the rest of us, as you’re often told to get back to work as soon as possible, which can be damaging.”
No kidding…
But obviously, Kate has all the resources in the world (literally) for this. One former patient at The London Clinic even noted to the mag:
“The physical therapists are amazing, helping you recover and get back on your feet. After abdominal surgery, you need a lot of patience, and it’s a bit scary at first.”
And another palace insider doubled down on the fact that Kate has lots of people in her corner to help her now with whatever may come up. Her parents Carole and Michael are nearby, and siblings Pippa and James are just “a short car ride away,” in addition to Prince William and all of the support from his famous fam. That source concluded:
“Her parents are an enduring factor in the upbringing of their grandchildren, and they will be a reassuring presence when she goes back to Windsor to recuperate. … She is in great hands and will have lots of care and support at home.”
So, that part is definitely good. Still, what a shock to hear now how most people in Kate’s orbit — even many of those in her near orbit — were caught off guard by her move to head in for surgery! Scary and surprising!! For now, as always, we hope she continues her recovery in full and is back to her normal self as soon as is feasible! Reactions, Perezcious readers??
