Back in 2023, 21-year-old Colorado resident Brian Cohee II was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the death of an elderly homeless man named Warren Barnes. In 2021, the then 19-year-old had been charged with first degree murder after it was discovered what he’d done to the 69-year-old, and now the bodycam footage from that harrowing day has finally been released.
A new YouTube documentary on the channel Explore With Us breaks down the horrific crime in great detail, and it all started in February 2021 when the teen asked cops for help after his family’s car got stuck on a boat ramp near the Colorado River. When police arrived at the scene, Cohee explained how he “needed to get out” to “relax and think” when the car got stuck after he parked on the boat ramp. His parents and law enforcement alike didn’t take the situation too seriously, thinking it was just an honest mistake, but soon thereafter they would discover the truth…

When cops pulled the car out of the water, they saw “red” on it, and assumed the teenager had been injured in the incident and bled, but they were very wrong. The very next day Cohee’s parents made some disturbing discoveries, starting with the wallet of Mr. Barnes’ and a “very large knife” in the glovebox. It wasn’t until his mom checked his closet did she find a plastic container with “maggots covering something” inside it. That’s when she told police:
“I saw old blood … and I saw his head.”
Chilling!
She called 911 and immediately told law enforcement what she’d found, to which they promptly arrived to speak to the teen themselves. In the horrifying bodycam footage of this interaction, the responding officers said his parents have some “concerns” about what they saw in his room. Cohee, then, responded very calmly and casually:
“Yeah, I believe so. A human head and hands … [They belong to] that fellow who went missing recently … Warren Brown (sic) … I murdered him [with a knife] … [I’ve] always wondered what murder felt like.”
WTF!
He was extremely cooperative with police, and eerily chill about the entire situation, as he even said to them on the way to the police station:
“I’m not feeling too well. These past two days, I’ve been very, very anxious … It was under this bridge.”
The bridge he pointed out would later be confirmed to be where he committed the murder… Damn.

The victim was a beloved member of the community, and now has his own memorial statue in Grand Junction, while his killer will spend the rest of his days behind bars. Such an unfathomable case; at least justice was served.
